Boost Your Immune System: 10 Effective Natural Healing Methods for Virus Recovery
As we entered Libra Season, in the first week of October 2023, I was looking forward to celebrating my birthday month with a new daily fitness challenge, only to be infected by a powerful influenza virus that had me forced into bed lying down and not moving.
As I worked through my pounding, horrifying headache and the fears of death that surfaced during my rising Fever, I ironically thanked the ecliptic month ahead as I turned to my Natural Healing methods for relief. I asked myself what I was experiencing, concluding I caught some viral strain and turned my self-care inward, following effective natural healing methods that boosted my immune system and promoted virus recovery.

What is a Virus?
A Virus is a Ribonucleotide or a Deoxyribonucleic acid that carries a gene expression and can mutate a gene.
They carry a life force that can only survive by hijacking a host cell and thus reproducing and thriving on its expression.
RNA Viruses transcript and mutate much faster than DNA Viruses and come in various forms, including the common cold, influenza, COVID-19, SARS, Dengue Virus, Hepatitis C and E, Rabies, Mumps, Measles, Polio and others.
Due to their rapid ability to mutate, developing a vaccine is often challenging. Hence, you often see yearly vaccines for the common flu and, most recently, COVID-19, every year and when the season changes.
How does a Virus work?
Though there are different types of Viruses, some more powerful than others, they have a similar thing in common. They cause infections in living organisms and often spread through direct contact with an infected person, contact with contaminated surfaces and objects, airborne particles, and sometimes through insect bites.
As the Virus attaches itself to healthy host cells, it injects its genetic material into them, hijacking the host’s functional ability and thus producing new viruses to spread infections to other cells. This invasion causes damage to the host cells, creating a wide range of symptoms from mild to severe.
What happens to the Immune System?
My aunt, a doctor working at a hospital in Norway, says there is a common joke in Medicine.
“It takes the Influenza Virus seven Days to pass through the body without medication and one week with Medication.”
Put with Humor, general viruses such as the common cold, influenza, and COVID-19 pass through the Body rapidly. The strength of a person's immune system determines the outcome of their health.
Generally, when the immune system encounters a virus, there is an immune response to produce antibodies, such as B cells and T Cells, that recognize and neutralize the Virus.
Often, the immune system creates a memory of previous viral infections, which makes a more effective response if the same Virus passes through the Body once more.
However, if the Virus is powerful, it can evade or suppress the immune system, leading to persistent infections or chronic diseases.
With that said, I used ten effective Natural Healing Methods for Viral Recovery and Boosting the Immune system to combat potential infections.
1. Breaking the Fever
A fever is a naturally occurring system’s response to invading microorganisms that creates a high temperature in the Body to increase metabolism and create an environment challenging for bacteria to survive. Interestingly, during a fever state, the spleen and liver are triggered to store zinc and iron, making these nutrients unavailable to potentially harmful bacteria requiring these minerals to replicate.
A Fever is beneficial, as the immune system is trying to rid the Body of any pathogens that may be harmful. Any fever between 39 and 41 degrees Celsius is positive and needed to help the Body eliminate toxins without causing neurological damage.
Thus, I aided the increase in my metabolic temperature by wrapping myself in blankets and taking a hot bath.
I also enjoyed freshly squeezed raspberry juice. Fresh raspberry or black Current juice and tea increase circulation and heat in the Body, helping to rid pathogens and break the Fever much faster, aiding in my immune system’s natural defence. It also helps treat infections and soothes a sore throat.
2. Essential Oils
The aromatic compounds in essential oils are very potent, offering various health benefits that can improve the immune system and promote healing during virus recovery. Some essential oils can rid the Body of infections, illnesses and diseases.
For example, the symptoms I experienced during my Viral infections were headaches, stress, insomnia, blocked sinuses and sore muscles.
I used these essential oils in my humidifier, topically and through inhalation, to boost my immune system and alleviate these horrifying influenza symptoms.
Thyme: relieved my lung congestion and soothed my dry, barking cough
Valerian helped me with sleep and was very calming.
Lavender: I relieved my headaches when topically applied, and it helped my mind relax.
Eucalyptus: Helped clear my congestion through inhalation.
Sage: Soothed my sore throat and cleared nasal congestion.

3. Oregano Oil
I turned to my trusted herbal remedy, Oregano Oil, which has helped me through several viral and bacterial infections. Oregano oil is a potent anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, antimicrobial, antifungal, and antiviral supplement that soothes sore throats and coughs and boosts the immune system.

4. Olive Leaf Extract
Olive leaf Extract has been my long-standing herbal friend in combating many viral infections. Known for its antiviral properties, it contains a compound known as oleuropein, which inhibits the replication of viruses by interfering with their ability to infect host cells.
A study published in Frontiers in Molecular Biosciences revealed that Olives, often used in the Mediterranean diet, identified the powerful natural steroid as an inhibitor of SARS-COV-2 (Covid-19), replication and entry into Host Cells.

5. Botanicals
Botanicals are potent plant compounds that include the flower, root and stem. Various types help treat several types of ailments naturally.
Some botanicals that helped me in Boosting my Immune system and viral recovery are:
Echinacea: Used as a tea, tincture, or capsule form, it boosts the immune system as I use it at the first signs of infection and up to a week after.
Goldenseal: An antibacterial and healing to the mucous membranes, relieving inflammation in the respiratory tract.
Ginger increases perspiration, helps cleanse the Body, and reduces chills. It helped stimulate my Fever to peak and then subside.
Chamomile: helped with relaxation.
6. Epson Salt
Epson salt is a mineral compound composed of Magnesium sulphate used in various cultures to treat various ailments. It is often used as a beauty product to exfoliate the skin or as a bath salt.
I soothed the common symptoms of muscle aches in viruses through an Epson salt bath, which helped reduce inflammation.
Its natural magnesium levels relax my Body and mind, promoting sleep and reducing stress.
Epson salt also acts as a natural exfoliate, which helps remove toxins and cleanse my lymphatic system, boosting the immune system during viral recovery.
7. Diet
It is natural not to feel hungry when dealing with a viral infection. The Body uses all its energy to fight the Virus and strengthen the immune system. Eat minimally but consume high-protein foods to enhance the antibodies that neutralize the Virus.
I avoided dairy, which is mucous-producing, refined sugars that create irritation and make the Body more acidic, an environment in which viruses thrive. Instead, I included the following foods for seven days:
Hot water with Lemon: Lemons are effective against viral infections as they are rich in Vitamin C, strengthening the immune system. They have high acidity, creating an environment that is hostile to many types of bacteria and viruses, and they hold antiviral compounds that combat viral infections.
Bone Broth: Rich in amino acids like glycine and proline, Bone Broth has been shown to have anti-inflammatory effects that help reduce the severity of symptoms associated with viral infections. Bone broth also contains minerals like zinc and magnesium, as well as collagen and gelatine that help support natural defence in the Body and soothe and protect the lining of the gut.
Garlic: The compound allicin, found in garlic, has been shown to have antiviral and antibacterial properties. In addition, its sulphur-containing compounds reduce inflammation in the Body.
8. Meditation
With my pounding headache and the excessive fears that accompanied my mind during the infection, I needed something to relax my state of being. I had insomnia the first few days of the infection due to my pounding headache.
I followed a guided meditation with the Down Dog app, which relaxed my Body, mind, and spirit. I felt more at ease and in control of my fears, becoming more confident that this weak state would pass and that I would be healthier when I reached the other side.
9. CoQ10
CoQ10 is a vital supplement derived from peanuts, organ meats, and fatty fish and is essential to take as a supplement as there is very little available in food. A potent antioxidant, it increases IgG antibody production and natural killer cell activity, inhibiting tumour metastasis.
I took CoQ10 to assist in viral recovery as a study by Israel showed that CoQ10 significantly reduced the ability of the SARS-CoV-2 virus (COVID-19) to replicate. This study showed that CoQ10 reduces the ability for cholesterol absorption by the intestinal system, and cholesterol is needed for an RNA virus to hijack a host cell and replicate in the Body.

10. Light Exercise
As I started to feel better and experience mucous congestive relief through my sinuses, I knew that the Virus was just about on its way out of my system. To speed up the process of elimination, I turned towards light exercise and practiced Yin and Vinyasa Yoga.
Exercise is essential as it stimulates the Lymphatic fluid, eliminating toxins, bacteria and viruses. The feet contain lymph nodes that increase circulation when facilitated through exercise, and so does detoxification of impurities, eradicating infections.
