First, They Ban Abortion. Then They’ll Burn Us At the Stake.
“I am not free while any woman is unfree, even when her shackles are very different from my own” — Audre Lorde
“To deny people their human rights are to challenge their very humanity.” –Nelson Mandela
In 2019, the United Nations determined that abortion was legal in 98% of countries to save women’s lives. As of 2022, it is about 60%. About 13 states in America have Trigger bans on Anti-Abortion. Is it just me? Or are we moving backward?
Going back in time, we seem to be returning to the middle ages. Women had no rights, were considered witches, and worshiped the devil. It is surrounded by patriarchal paradigms, limiting values, and control. Six centuries later, there seems to be resistance to facing unconscious belief systems rooted in fear, ego, and power.
What is this obsession with needing to control women? Is it that hard to encourage empathy and compassion, to create a sacred and divine world filled with unconditional love? It is time to start facing these cowardly acts developed by the insecurity and intimidation of women. These fears direct assumptions and lead to violence.
It is time for government, society, and religion to lead in integrity. To recognize the power of Men and Women equally. We are both divines, sacred, and rooted in intelligence, consciousness, and awareness. Men and Women are meant to integrate as one to create a world without discrimination, war, and lack of freedom to choose.
Ironically, the first country to legalize abortion was in 1920, under Vladimir Lenin. In 1931, Mexico legalized abortion in cases of rape. In 1935, Iceland legalized therapeutic abortion, while Nazi Germany legalized abortion in case of women having hereditary diseases. After the 1940s, abortion was legalized and criminalized back and forth throughout all countries of the world.
It was not until 2019 that the United Nations determined that abortion was legal in 98 % of nations to save women’s lives. In 2020, women all over the streets of Poland will line up to protest against the Constitutional Tribunal for banning abortion and restricting women’s lives all over the country.
This followed a tragic event in January of 2022, a Polish woman being refused doctors’ help to abort their child, even though their risk of surviving pregnancy was less than 1 %. She died on the pregnancy table with her child still in her. And now we face the same fears and restrictive rules in the states.
This is not just about abortion; it again burdens women to choose what to do with their bodies to appease the man. Men are not required to take birth control pills, the morning after pills, or IUDs, which are harmful to women on many scales regarding physical, emotional, and mental health.
Banning abortion removes the right for a woman to practice safe sex in a form that is healthy and sacred with her partner. We are eliminating the couples’ rights to make conscious choices for their future. By removing the option, we increase imprisonment, violence, and fears where otherwise there would be non.
It is time to love, not hate. We are all one and divine. Women and Men are equal, and both genders should have the same freedom and rights to choose what to do with their bodies. It is 2022; let us start acting like it.
We can no longer hide under restrictive constructs by our ancestors that were created with limited knowledge and information. We have the tools, the education, and the science to provide a free and fair world for all, women and men alike.
